Meet The Bakers! Who Is On The Great British Bake Off Season 13?

Britain’s biggest cooking reality show is back on our screens this Autumn. The Great British Bake Off Season 13 begins at 8PM on Tuesday 13th September on Channel 4. But who are the contestants? We have all you need to know on the 2022 bakers and who will be starring in the tent this year.

Where to watch the Great British Bake Off in America?

The Great British Bake Off will be made available for audiences in the USA on Netflix after the episode has aired in the UK. 

The Great American Baking Show will feature the original series judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith this year too.

Who is Abdul on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 29

Job: Electronics Engineer

Town: London

Abdul bakes alongside his graduate colleagues and is known for his precision. Bakers in engineering professions have done very well in Bake Off tasks in previous seasons due to their care and accuracy so Abdul will be one to watch. He LOVES matcha so expect that to be his signature flavouring.

Carole

Who is Carole on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 59

Job: Supermarket Cashier

Town: Dorset

Carol bakes cakes which are inspired by her other love gardening and horticulture. She is known for her colourful bakes and eccentricities and has used YouTube tutorials to learn new techniques. She first started baking when her grand daughter Maisie was born and needed a birthday cake. She is said to really love fruit flavours to we can expect to see many fruity bakes from Carole!

Dawn

Who is Dawn on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 60

Job: IT Manager

Town: Bedfordshire

Dawn‘s favourite flavours are lemon, salted caramel and nuts (we wonder if she‘ll do a bake with all three). Salted Caramel will be a crowd pleaser in the tent but will it be too safe? As an IT Manager she is also known for her accuracy and attention to detail and loves a challenge. She‘s even been quoted in saying that she loves the challenge of an illusion cake complete with mad flavours and designs. We love the confidence!

James

Who is James on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 25

Job: Nuclear Scientist

Town: Cumbria

James looks set to be another brilliant eccentric baker on this year‘s Great British Bake Off. We love a contestant with a wacky hobby and James is said to love horror films from the 70s and 80s! He works his love of horror into his baking and includes autumnal flavours such as apple, caramel and spices. This sounds right up our street but will it be a one trick wonder?!

Janusz

Who is Janusz on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 34

Job: Personal Assistant to a Headteacher

Town: East Sussex

Janusz fell in love with baking because of his family. His Mother used to bake every Saturday and he kept the tradition going when he moved away to University. He has described his baking style as colourful, camp and cartoon-like (it sounds like we‘re going to have some artistic creations in the tent this year). His favourite flavours are the crowd pleasers chocolate and ginger and likes putting a Polish twist on traditional British bakes. This may win over Prue!

Kevin

Who is Kevin on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 33

Job: Music Teacher

Town: Lanarkshire

Kevin seems to be a very traditional baker; he wants to use the best seasonal ingredients in his bakes and has spent a lot of time perfecting and refining his techniques. Kevin‘s baking style might make a nice change from the other mad creations in the tent but we hope he still stands out. His flavour combinations might do just that as he is said to like mixing fruits, herbs, nuts and spices in interesting ways.

Maisam

Who is Maisam on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 18

Job: Student and Sales Assistant 

Town: Greater Manchester

Manchester‘s Maisam may be only 18 but she has been baking for 5 years straight since she was 13 years old. She is inspired by her Mediterranean heritage and she regularly uses flavours such as olives, dates and seasame seeds. Maisam seems to be another scientifically minded baker striving to get the technical sides of things right. Great flavour and a technical mind may be a winning combination!

Maxy

Who is Maxy on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 29

Job: Architectural Assistant

Town: London

Maxy started baking after the birth of her daughter 5 years ago and is well known for creating beautiful looking celebration cakes. We think she is one to watch out for in the showstopper challenges! Her bakes include Scandinavian flavours linking to her time growing up in the region. Expect cardamom, saffron and cinnamon to all make an appearance in her bakes.

Rebs

Who is Rebs on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 23

Job: Masters Student

Town: County Antrim

Another student but this time from Northern Ireland! Rebs has been baking since she was a child with her Mother and Grandmother. She uses baking as a way to unwind from every day life and working in the technology field. She has stated that flavour is her strong point (meaning style may take a backseat) and she isn‘t afraid of trying new ingredients. She recently has started incorporating Middle Eastern flavours into her bake as a lovely link to her boyfriend Jack‘s Turkish heritage.

Sandro

Who is Sandro on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 30

Job: Nanny

Town: London

Sandro started baking after his Father passed away when he was just 21 years old. From a hobby that started as a form of self care, Sandro now bakes pretty much daily including in front of the TV and at virtual baking classes for children with Autism. Sandro is going to bring some more amazing flavour combinations to the tent but this time from Angola! We can expect paprika, cheese and dulce de leche but maybe not in the same dish!

Syabira

Who is Syabira on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 32

Job: Cardiovascular Research Associate

Town: London

Another scientific and London based contestant. Syabira started baking in 2017 with her first bake being a Red Velvet cake - an ambitious one to start off with! She will be bringing Malaysian flavour to the tent this year and intends to give a Malaysian twist to traditional British bakes. She LOVES savoury flavours including Chicken Rendang and Cornish Pasties so we can expect her to excel in pastry or bread week!

Will

Who is Will on the Great British Bake Off?

Age: 45

Job: Former Charity Director

Town: London

Another London contestant! Will states that he started baking at just 2 years old (it must run in his blood!) when his Mother used to give him the pastry trimmings and he would make Jam Tarts. He is another salted caramel lover and also uses a lot of Paprika in his savoury bakes. He has said in interviews that he is a keen technical baker and is particularly fond of bread and using yeast. Maybe a new rival for Paul Hollywood himself!
